A drawing that I have made of the anatomical position of the thyroid gland – a butterfly-shaped gland of the endocrine system located in the anterior part of the neck, in front of the trachea. This important organ produces the hormones tetraiodothyronine (thyroxine or T4) and triiodothyronine (T3), which act on various aspects of metabolism (development, respiratory rate, muscle function, heart rate, digestive function, etc.).
